My aroma work has taken a standstill over the last couple months because I found a smell I was happy with and wasn't sure how I was going to implement it but I have now worked out where this body of work is going. The aroma work and the main body of pottery work will be merged into a piece entitled 'SCENT VESSELS' and will consist of 10-15 coil pots fired at a high-heat that will house the aroma work on a stilted platform of OSB wood and steel rods. As for the specifics of the aroma work I will be researching and developing other ways to emit the scent with things such as candles. This piece is going to be one of 4-6 individual pieces that will make up my exhibition. As my first wave of pots have been fired and embellished with twine (as a way to link materials within the exhibition) my next step to realise 'SCENT VESSELS' is to continue my research into historical pottery and start to create a new wave of pots.
My other projects I am focusing on right now is my print work. I have decided against the book idea and I also have decided to move away with the Saint etching idea so I will be using my cross pattern work I have been struggling to implement with the etching by creating a distorted version that I will photographically etch onto found fabrics I have been collecting. I will then develop the prints as I create them to influence the next plate much in the style of Louise Bourgeois. I like the idea of using found fabric because it will be adding a narrative on a material that already has its own history and plays with the history aspect in my degree show as a whole. I've been looking at etching artists that will help influence the print work and I found the work of Terry Winters whose work has an interesting layout I'd like to take inspiration from.
