Furthering my research on the chalice for my St. Richard piece I found an objects I hadn't come across before which would fit with the piece very well. The chalice veil which is a cloth that used to cover the chalice either after communion or during holy festivals. I think using this object in my work will be a perfect way to link my cross pattern and found fabric prints to this piece. I'm going to experiment with my screen-print on the cloth for this covering instead of having just another etching thrown on but if it comes down to me using the etching I will adapt it in some way to elevate it.

Sisters of Charity 'Chalice Veil' 1880-1890

During my chalice research I started to notice a lot of key feature that seemed to be on all the examples I was looking at like a embellished base and lump within the neck so they will be thought of heavily when it comes to creating my chalice. Also thinking of glaze I'm going to experiment with blue and red as they have strong connections within Christianity and also black and white because it will add a contemporary look to the work.
