Today I had a lecture and was lucky enough to have a 1on1 with artist James Capper. His work is really incredible and listening to him talk about his practice really spoke to me on an artistic level. During the 1on1 he gave some really interesting insight and also brought up ideas that I had early on in the year but didn't see them through such as bringing dirt in with my pots to bring the material back to the earth and link to the archaeological aspects of my work. When he suggested this it immediately took me to the work of Davinia Ann-Robinson. He also suggested about playing with the twine aspect of my pots and use other forms of rope, cable ties and fishing lines to push more contrast to the work as the twine can take away from the pots by blending in.
Next I plan to get some new varieties of rope/cable ties to play with. I also want to bring my pots back into the earth by burying them and letting the earth do what it will and documenting this. I think this will open up other avenues within my work and push myself as I have seen myself sticking to my plan more than I would like as I feel it doesn't push me as an artist.
