With only a couple months left until the degree show I thought this would be a perfect time to look back at the development of this project. I started off with very set ideas this year that built on themes I have experimented in the past. Themes surrounding history, object and materiality. I wanted this project to have a particular viewpoint from a certain type of object but as the project progressed I was getting a lot of inspiration from such a wide variety of areas and it felt a shame to restrict that. Starting with Christianity then developing into oil based objects and now open to a wide variety of pottery as well. The development of what will come of this project has come pretty organically with being a collection of works, to a gestalt piece and now to a full installation. My material is something extremely important to my work and has been the basis for a lot of my research and the link between my materials is what I think will really bring the installation together. Starting with my knowledge in textiles and developing into an exploration in so many things I haven't experienced before such as coil pottery, screen printing, carpentry and archaeology.
Next in this project is to carry on the set plans I have for the pottery and continue playing with the cross pattern as it is something I really enjoy but is something I don't know what to do with fully yet. I also am waiting on funds to play with some of the things I need to play with such as the dirt/archaeology aspect and the aroma elements. Also do more research into ceramic/history based installation such as Karin Lehmann's 'Sediment Sampling' as inspiration.
