I've experimented a lot with the cross pattern being screen printed and it's just not doing what I want it to do so I began thinking if it's necessary to have the print fully created by me. I'm thinking of perhaps getting the pattern printed professionally on maybe a silk to convey it's importance or a natural cotton to link back to the fabrics the Byzantine empire would have used. Also thinking of display options for this piece and I'm thinking or either loosely hanging one large piece or hanging three/four smaller pieces by their corners as a link back to some of my previous works from second year.
The main piece I've been referring to as the 'SCENT VESSEL' piece is going well and I have a total of nine fired pieces and four unfired pieces waiting to be fired that I'm going to narrow down for the degree show for this piece. Now that I have enough for that work I need to focus on display for the piece which is what I'm mainly playing with at the moment by incorporating the cross into my dirt almost as if its sprouting from the earth. I've gotten a lot of positive feedback on this element and is something I'm feeling very confident in.
My concerns for this project right now are the time frame and the 'St Richard' piece, time frame because I don't have the funds for more supplies until very close to the deadline so I'm having to make due. My main pot piece will be ready and as long as nothing goes wrong with printing so will the hung pattern piece but the 'Fluted Armour' piece requires a lot of clay that don't have. I'm also concerned with the 'St Richard' piece as I did a test setup and the proportion was really off and it's giving me doubts about the piece and although not all the elements were there I don't know if they'll make a difference. To utilise the stuff I've made for the I'm thinking of maybe using stone, concrete of found wood as a plinth as well as looking into museum, archaeological and anthropological display like the Pitt Rivers museum, V&A and the Novium. I found a piece by Theaster Gates using reclaimed furniture which has the display sort of feel I'm going for so I will keep that in mind when making my display piece.
