We started setting up this week and because I only had one piece I was unsure about I began with that. The tile piece which I have entitled 'SPIRITUAL/PHYSICAL'. I initially wanted to weave the jute twine in a net like structure through the tiles and have it be the main structure so I started with making that on the floor. I then needed to figure out how to hang the work and I brainstormed some ideas like holes through the wall or nails visibly coming out the wall but I landed on hidden nails on top of the boards. Then it came to hanging but once I attempted it was way too heavy and sagged not making a feature of the net structure or the grid which is vital to the work. After a discussion with the technicians we came up with nailing the top row of tiles to the wall to create a anchor point and then create the work from there but after seeing the top row nailed on I really liked the effect and carried on. Once the grid was done (4x6) I used the nails as point to wrap the twine creating the net without it having to be the structure. The effect of this work came across more minimalistically striking than I thought it would be hinting to artist such as Donald Judd, Agnes Martin and Sherrie Levine.
